The Maturity School
The Maturity School is established to introduce new members to the world of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and most especially the Kingdom of God. Our Educational theory, methods and practices are built upon Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
HISTORY OF THE MATURITY SCHOOL
About eighteen (18) years after the establishment of The GOOD SHEPHERD Methodist Youth Fellowship, the spate of immorality, indiscipline and acute leadership crisis rose to unbearable heights. These were the moments when members came to meetings drunk and chaotic scenes were not scarce during meetings.
In 1990 thereabout, a new leadership was set up and they decided to ‘clean up’ the fellowship. The idea of letting all members undergo a discipleship class was welcomed by all. This culminated into the setting up of the Maturity Classes, which has eventually become the Maturity School.
ESSENCE OF THE SCHOOL
The School was set up to among other things see to it that:
• Members understand the aims and objectives of the M.Y.F.
• To help inculcate Christian habits into members
• To empower members with the truth in the word of God
• To train members to be effective witnesses of Christ
• To raise a generation of responsible Christians
A manual was designed forthwith and the teachers (members who had successfully completed the lessons) were chosen to take members, both old and new, through the lessons. It was hoped that the training provided would help curb the alarming rate of immorality and indiscipline. So far, a lot has been achieved and it can be widely said that the Maturity School continues to achieve its purpose over the years.
The onus is on those who will come afterwards (both leadership and members), to continue the good works and to improve upon it.
